Red Wings, CHAMPIONS 07-08 NHL season
By TonyH | June 5, 2008
Detroit Red Wings win their 11th Stanley Cup with a 3-2 victory of the Pittsburgh Penguins
To a season full of promise, you Penguins and fans have great heart
What a roller coaster ride for the Red Wings and their fans. Like you I was stunned after the game 5 loss at the Joe and then to see it happen in game six was outstanding. Nerves fried to a frazzle, palms sticking to everything you touched, heartbeats in your throats and when the puck trickled through the crease it was all magnified 10,000 percent.
After the reality of the Wings winning, several thoughts came to mind as I sat on the couch, by the way this was all observed on a 50 high-def television with a high-def receiver. Nicklas Lidstrom will be the first European born Captain to hoist the Stanley Cup, Dallas Drake with his first cup in 16 years in the league, Henrik Zetterberg with his outstanding season and playoffs get his first win, and later will pick-up the Conn Smythe for the playoffs MVP, Brad Stuart comes from a last place team to first place and gets his name engraved on the Cup and all the very young players will get to lift the 35 pound trophy and last but not least, Mike Babcock wins his very first Stanley cup and with all the hopes and prayers being said, we can only hope there will be many more under this outstanding coaching. Congrats boys, well done and thanks.
I thought rather than post the usual story, I would put up links from the press:
